10thousandgirls

On Saturday the lovely Erin and I were lucky enough to attend the inspiring 10thousandgirl workshop held in Melbourne. We were there, along with 12 other young women, to have our brains picked, our financial wisdom scrutinised and our dreams broken down into attainable, doable steps. It was close to being the most productive eight hours of my life, and that's saying something.

The workshop was run by the chirpy Zoe Lamont and taught me more about myself, my hopes and dreams than any book has ever taught me.

The 10thousandgirl Campaign can be summed up in the following words:

The 10thousandgirl Campaign aims to improve the financial literacy of 10,000 young Australian women to inspire them to pursue their life plan with a confidence and independence backed by financial security.- http://www.10thousandgirl.com/

What we love about the campaign, and the amazing women running it, is that it shares a similar philosophy to REAL, in that it hopes to create a generation of confident and independent women. We know life's not all about celebrity gossip, makeup and looking good. In fact, my god, how boring would the world be if that was all us girls cared about? Life is about making the most of the talents and skills you've been given in this crazy world. It's about making a stand for what you believe in. It's about inspiring others to live the amazing lives they are capable of. Because EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US is capable of doing amazing things. It just depends on how much we want it and hard we are willing to work to get there. It also depends on how well we know ourselves and what it is that we're good at or what it is we love.

If you're interested in learning how to make your dreams a reality, or even how to start saving for that funky car when you get your license, then sign up for 10thousandgirl and get saving!

In the meantime, if you're short on some positive role models, check out the websites of the brains behind the campaigns, Zoe Lamont and Anneli Knight.
