'Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is out light, not our darkness, that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is... nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you'
Gump was correct when he proclaimed that life was life a box of chocolates...you never know what you're going to get...which keeps it exciting :)
#1 AN APOLOGY
First of all I owe an apology to all the young women who contributed written and art works to be published in issue five of REAL.
Unfortunately the issue never came to life due to lack of funding :( which made the REAL team very sad. We did announce this in a group email and on our website…however it may not have been clearly stated that Issue 5 will not be printed.

#5 ‘TO GUARANTEE A HAPPY MARRIAGE, MARRY A NINE YEAR OLD GIRL’
I just finished reading I am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced.
Disturbing, eye opening and revealing to say the least, however the courage, determination and self-respect of this ten-year old young woman is simply empowering and inspiring.
As I was sitting listening to yet another of my friends complain to me about the state that her life (mostly love life) was in, I began to wonder to myself if we have become almost addicted to creating dramatic lifestyles to rival a Gossip Girl script.
Just take a moment to think about the things in life that you constantly complain about, yet never change. Your job may be the worst on the planet (or so you think) but you stay there regardless and are content to simply complain about it instead of changing it.
Your friends may be toxic for you (and you know it) yet you stick around and wonder why you never completely enjoy social occasions or find yourself sitting at home with a block of chocolate rather than spending time with those people you call friends.
Your love life (or lack thereof) may be as tumultuous as a scene from The Hills, yet you continue to choose the “wrong” guys and fall for those who lack the ability to commit to you.
In today’s contemporary “have it all” society it would be nice to think that we have it easier than our grandmothers did, yet somehow we seem to be making it harder for ourselves to live a less complicated life.
So, the burning question remains: why do we seem to take the road that leads us to uncertainty and anxiety when the easier road is right there too; maybe in the very corner of our mind, but it is there.
Written by the lovely Markeeta Waddington- who will be publishing her works on REAL every second Thursday, so stay tuned.
I love listening to people talk, tell stories, viewing artworks, listening to music, exploring nature, reading books, watching films and writing poetry.
Inspiration can be found everywhere- however I think sometimes we can get so caught up in our own lives that inspiration passess us by.
I wanted to share with you a two young artists that have inspired me.

Tell REAL a little bit about yourself?
'I'm 18, an art student at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff. I’m passionate, far too loving and possibly a little crazy at times. I am totally motivated when it comes to getting my life started and probably still as curious as I was when I was 5! I see beauty everywhere… and I paint about it.'
What makes you smile?
'It sounds silly but love. When I think about someone I've loved, I smile, even if they're gone. I smile when I think about my little sister, she’s my best friend. And I smile when I see people in love… mushy? Tell me about it! I smile when I hear a song that inspires me; sometimes I listen to something new and a little picture pops into my head. I smile at good art… in fact; I smile at rubbish art... as long as I like it! And mainly, when I think about where I'm gonna end up in the world...I love thinking about the future and what I want out of it. I know I'll get a lot out of it because I want too. Oh and a bit of witty banter never goes a miss!!'
REALaims to encourage girls to respect their bodies and minds. We facilitate and create innovative mediums that honestly reflect the ideas, challenges and experiences of girls living across the world.
